Rhyme & Reason

The Preschool Curriculum

For Playgroup, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten 1 & Kindergarten 2

Play, songs, games and activity are the child’s natural modes of learning. That’s exactly what The Teacher Foundation has incorporated into this unique preschool curriculum – lots of ‘Rhyme’, lots of ‘Reason’ wrapped colourfully in a range of exciting activities. ‘Rhyme and Reason’ makes for a great preschool learning package.

Rhyme & Reason has been carefully designed by The Teacher Foundation – with equal elements of art and craft, songs, hands-on activities and concepts. The curriculum introduces learning to early years learners in a playful, happy and meaningful manner – a sound basis for success later in their school life.

How is the curriculum designed?

Rhyme and Reason uses a Thematic approach. The curriculum is broken into 11 themes and each theme is expanded as a Unit that incorporates the 6 Areas of Learning. A unit would take 2-4 weeks to complete. Every unit integrates various concepts and skills based on the 6 Areas of Learning. The curriculum provides daily lesson ideas, with interesting worksheets, film clips and other resources for the teachers to use. Children learn in large groups and small groups. ‘Choice Time’ is an important component of the curriculum, where children break-out to ‘learning corners’ and the focus shifts from teacher-directed activities to allowing the children to choose activities according to their areas of interest. The curriculum also includes a set of varied assessment strategies teachers can use, as well as assessment forms and report cards.

On average, a teacher teaches at least forty children every year. Over a 25 year career, that is one thousand children. That means, when we enable and inspire ONE teacher, we touch over ONE THOUSAND lives. So contribute to ONE teacher’s training and touch the lives of a thousand children!
